When nature meets innovation at Federation’s regional campuses
Ballarat – our historic home
Ballarat, home to our Mt Helen and Camp Street campuses, is the largest inland city in Victoria. Famous since the 1850s, when the Victorian gold rush drew people from all over the world, Ballarat today is a lively, affordable and relaxed regional city with a fast-growing and increasingly multicultural population of over 100,000. Just an hour on the train from Melbourne, Ballarat is also within easy access of the spectacular sights of the Grampian Mountains and the Great Ocean Road.
Ballarat is the historic home of Federation University, with our timeline dating back to 1870. Today, Federation is a central focus of the city, with major campuses and strong connections to local industry, culture and community. Our flagship Mt Helen Campus is set on 110 hectares of natural bushland, combining a beautiful location with cutting-edge teaching and research facilities. Ballarat’s schools, hospitals and businesses, including multinational companies such as IBM and Concentrix, offer excellent placement and employment opportunities for Federation students and graduates.
Gippsland – the natural alternative
The Gippsland Campus is Federation’s second-largest campus and is located in the town of Churchill in Victoria’s south-east, approximately 160km east of Melbourne city centre. Gippsland is an extensive and diverse region of Victoria renowned for its natural beauty. The local scenery ranges from spectacular coastline to snow-covered mountains. Churchill, home to our Gippsland Campus, is one of four major towns in the Latrobe Valley that have a total population of over 70,000 people.
